What are you up to these days? I’ve been trying to find my ground after an exciting and busy fall as co-President of the Metal Arts Guild. I/we mounted four exhibitions and a symposium in celebration of our 60th anniversary, so I lost a lot of studio time. Every day I tell myself after-work hours are for making, but instead I find myself at tango class. It’s becoming a beautiful, albeit slightly problematic, distraction.
What event will we find you at this week? My friend’s Valloween party – think My Bloody Valentine. I’m hoping there’ll be Twister!
Where would you have your last meal on earth? Living in SF means having a bunch of friends who can cook really, really well, so I’d probably invite myself over to one of their houses. But if by some fluke they were all out of town, I’d eat every sea-thing at La Ciccia and especially their spaghetti with bottarga.
Where do you get your local gossip? Mission Mission and Mission Local – they report on local crime and the lone decapitated curbside goat when others will not.
Where's your go-to date place? The hardware store because I like collaborative romance.
Where's your secret spot? The Verdi Club’s Thursday night Milonga makes me feel like I’m on
holiday for the night.
What do you get obsessive about here in SF? Recchiuti Confections’ dark milk chocolate, Bi-Rite Market’s whitefish spread, and Tartine Bakery’s vegetable quiche.
What would you change about SF? I’d give it an edge. SF feels very isolated, insular, and out-of-touch at times – the flip side to Never Never Land, I suppose.
