SF is... Really not as self-serious as the world thinks it is.
Who's your favorite quintessential local character? The owner of our local corner shop, New Santa Clara Market. He has a nickname for everyone; I am “Captain” my wife is “Boss” (apparently this trumps Captain) and my close friend is “Doctor”. I’m sure he reuses some of them on other customers, but he’s impressively committed to assigning everyone their own name.
What's your most embarrassing SF moment? I’m losing my hair, so anytime there is a big gust of wind.
Why do you love your neighborhood? The Lower Haight is the best neighborhood in the city for the following reasons: It is centrally located; it is active but subdued when appropriate; it’s naturally hip without intention; it is small enough to keep an involved populace; it knows its identity and has something for each of its personalities.
What's your secret spot in town? The newly-renovated side of Buena Vista Park is gorgeous and there are never people there.
