Neighborhood: The Mission
Gig: Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin's drummer
What are you up to these days? I can usually be found in a van with three of my favorite people, sampling all the world's burritos, truck stop coffee, and pickles, and playing Black Sabbath songs too fast and too loud, or roaming around the Mission, also eating burritos, petting other people's dogs and playing cards or pool with the usual suspects.
What event will we find you at this week? I'm going to be in LA hanging out with my little brother, but if I wasn't going South, I would be at the benefit show for our buddy Jonathan Toubin who had an unfortunate accident recently. Our booker, Michelle, organized a benefit for his medical bills and Ty will be doing a one-man-band show and there will also be performances by Shannon and Thee Clams, Hank IV and Lenz. It's on the 18th at the Mezzanine and I would absolutely be there if I could.
Who's your favorite quintessential local character? Sam Adato! He's the man. The man knows a thing or two about drums.
Where's your go-to date place? My boyfriend and I like to go to Emmy's Spaghetti Shack because it's kind of dark and romantic, but it's also low-key. And my boyfriend is a spaghetti fiend, so it's a pretty good fix. We also go on a lot of morning dates, if you will, at Jump Start Coffee on 24th and Guerrero because Pete's awesome, and he makes great iced coffee and bagels and REALLY good veggie sandwiches. It's a really nice morning (or as Pete would point out, afternoon) tradition that we have.
Where's your secret spot? There's a park on Guerrero between 25th and 26th called Juri Commons that I really like going to, usually alone, sometimes with my boyfriend. They have a really weird mural on the wall, and you can usually go on the swings because not a lot of people hang out there.
What's next for you in your personal world? I want to learn to play guitar like Fast Eddie Clarke and finish my 'zine sometime soon.
What's next for you in your work/creative world? Recording a record with Ty and Mikal and Charlie for In The Red ! We're going to do it in an old airplane hangar with a skate ramp in it and we're going to live there for a few days so we can shred all day and night.
