Neighborhood: The Mission

Gig: I write Janebook

Where do you get your city gossip? For various happenings about town I read Mission Mission , Honey In Yr Brain and This Is Not A Heart  for more salacious stuff, Let Them Eat Tiramisu  keeps me current on music. mid90s  is not technically gossip, but sometimes has pictures of cute boys.

Who's your favorite quintessential local character? Boz; he is a brilliant mid-twenties sage, and a modern SF dandy for all your foppish needs.

What's your go-to date place? Mario's Bohemian Cigar Store Cafe on Union & Columbus. My mom and dad had their first date there.

What's your secret spot in town? Not sure how secret this is, but  Hwa Lei Market on 16th & Mission has awesome, dirt-cheap homemade Vietnamese snacks, like fresh spring rolls with shrimp, and rice cakes with mung bean paste wrapped in banana leaves. I stop there every day on my way to school to buy my lunch.

What's your favorite San Francisco institution? Half-off everything day at Community Thrift. I always get there early and clean out, then go to the park with a coconut water to bask in celebratory afterglow.

What's the question you wish we asked? Something about 'coolest recent purchase' because I want to brag about this amazing handwoven Zapotec table runner I got for $28(!) at Gallery 683. I've worn it as a shawl and it always gets so many compliments.
