About Michael

Photography is the only honest work Michael Shindler has ever done. A darkroom enthusiast since the '80s (when it was cool), he has worked as a photojournalist, commercial photographer, photographic educator, and darkroom evangelist. He is pretty sure he can photosensitize your skin and print that image of the virgin of Guadalupe directly on your back – but you'll need to sign a waiver first. Having spent ten years spreading the good news of photography at the RayKo Photo Center, he is now partnering with a friend to open Photobooth, a walk-in Tintype and Polaroid portrait studio, gallery space and retail store on Valencia Street. The first of its kind, anywhere. Opening this summer.
