About René
René Garcia Jr. draws upon a broad palette of established techniques, media, and experience in an effort to re-imagine popular art. He's an accomplished painter, photographer, illustrator, and all around idea man, and his large format glitter paintings that have drawn the most recognition.
Employing a heavy dose of optimism and a penchant for badassery, René exploits proven gimmicks in an earnest attempt to dazzle. In a culture where reproduction is easy and accessible, he makes meticulously handcrafted work that is deliberately unique by design.
Through an ongoing collaboration with Global Inheritance, René also likes to encourage environmental awareness through eco-themed installations at events such as the Coachella Music Festival and, most recently, the Winter X Games in Aspen.
René has a been a San Francisco resident for most of his adult life, and he credits SF and its unique cocktail of people and ideas for inspiring and supporting his art. He is also a devoted family man.
