About Klea
Klea McKenna was raised in the rural, bohemian subcultures at the western edge of the United States. Her parents instilled in her a taste for adventure, experimentation and a deep curiosity about all things strange. She has studied art and photography at Florence Art Institute, UCLA and UCSC, and received an MFA from California College of the Arts. McKenna’s work has been exhibited widely, most recently at Haines Gallery and Rayko Photo Center in San Francisco and at Jen Beckman Gallery and Regina Rex in New York. Klea’s artwork uses the materiality of analogue photography to explore perceptions of nature, light and natural phenomena. She has taught photography at CCA and UC Davis and she currently lives in San Francisco. In 2011 Klea co-founded www.inthemake.com with writer Nikki Grattan. When not in the darkroom, classroom or photographing for In The Make, Klea might be attempting to grow a garden, seeing art, river swimming or fantasizing about travel with her husband David Charne.
